Selling Eden Metro to buy Carvin BX500, Yes/No??

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to lighten my Bass rig, and I'm thinking of selling my Eden Metro to grab a Carvin BX500 to use with my Avatar 2X10 Cab. I LOVE the Metro's tone, BUT, 78 pounds is 78 pounds! Also, with the rest of the proceeds I can get a neo 2X10 to go even lighter and portable. Been reading the thread about the Carvin BX500 part 3 here, and things like the tube being POST DI, and other pros/cons are making me think about NOT making this move. Granted, Metro's DO have their quirks, but I'm wondering if I should just stand pat
Chime in y'all!

I hear you on the 78lbs Metro.

I bought a MarkBass LMIII and 210 Cab 35lbs. It sounds very, very good.

Eden Metro sounds better to my ears. I just do not want to get that beast into the car at 2:30 am, too old, too tired and probably I am the only one who knows or cares it sounds a little better than my Markbass Rig.

The BX500 is a nice head. I have no experience with the Metro so I can't compare the two. I totally understand wanting to go lighter. I recently sold my 25lb rack with head, tuner and power conditioner in favor of an 8lb Ampeg micro head. You might also look into the Ampeg PF-500 head.

Yes...I'm having a hard time parting with the cab and that EDEN TONE!!!
I've also been tossing around the idea of grabbing that new EDEN WORLD TOUR WTDI Bass Direct box PREAMP PEDAL
and the SWR amplite 400W Bass Power Amp.
and, I'm getting older and that amp be heavy...

IMHO there`s no need to compromise on tone to get light. About 650 will get you a 15 lb crown head with enough power to melt cars and a VT Dlxe pedal, or a similar power amp-pedal pre combination, or any number of integrated small heads (GB Shuttle 9.0 can now be had new off eBay with full warranty for around 650 if you look).

The carvin 250 is on my short list for small amps mostly due to all the eq features and a level control on the di. There's so much eq on that head you can dial in whatever you want, including your eden sound.

Funny thing. I just talked a good friend of mine into buying a 250. He plays in a small acoustic/folk band, and he's having ton's of trouble with his Fender Rumble 150. Size and weight also were a plus!
