OSHA say's 4 feet.
Well instead of "the show must go on" today we have the sameish statement but the authorities add a huge list of local ordinances, caveats, sub clauses and directives.
Why don't we rebel any more, this is all so downsized and sanitised its
getting really tedious, like a fire breathing act without the dangerous accelerants.

We would usually have our own. I understand the stadiums you're playing don't like to relinquish their high dollar digital board to a skinny, nerdy looking guy that smells like weed and Cheetos. But we could usually get him behind the board at reasonably large venues.

So other than recording, why would a bass player have an $800.00 preamp to get that awesome sound to just send a dry signal to the board? It makes more sense money wise to just have a small basic amp you can hear what you are doing, and hope it magically gets transposed in to something wonderful out front?
I can see why bass players get upset.

This got a little OT from my question,..

Can you use the tuner/phones output to go to the pa if all your amp has is a pre EQ bal out because wouldn't this be post EQ?
I don't have this amp yet, I'm just reading what it has for hookups.

I typically send a pre-EQ signal to FOH but I think if the player has a "signature" tone, say a Chris Squire or Geddy Lee, they're going to insist on getting that to FOH. The soundperson will still need to EQ of course for the specific venue.

To the OP's original question, I've always heard that sending a phones output to FOH doesn't give you a clean enough signal on a larger stage.

this argument is always well hashed out in the "mic my cab" or "stupid soundguy" threads.
this.
it's not just the EQ but also the preamp and voice of the amp that gets bypass when going "Pre EQ" also. my amp settings are pretty much flat as i do my EQ'ing from my bass to get a different sound so if i used a DI or my amp, result would still be the same.
