seperate cab/amp or combo??

Okay fellow TB'ers I'm in a stump and cant get my way out of this GAS so someone show me the light.

My gigging rig is a Ampeg SVT810 and a GK1001RB head with a BBE362 and various effect pedals. I've played this set up for the past 10 years and absolutly love it and cant see myself changing it anytime soon.

However... my practice rig at home is a whole other story and it goes something like this. I have a GK 115RBH cab, and a Behr***er BX4500H head (The "B" word is a bad word I know!) The GK 15" cab sounds okay but not by itself IMO. The head sounds okay too but the tone is really not "my tone". So I've been thinking of trading this little GK/Behrin*** set up for a GK 210 backline combo, or a SWR 210 combo, or something that will give me a GK Tone (like my 1001RB) or similiar when I'm at home and jamming and keeping up my chops.

So I guess my question is...

1. am I making a bad decision trading this amp/cab setup for a decent combo.

2. what other combo's have you guys experienced and recommend , ie: the GK 210 backline or similiar.

Thanks!!

If I were you, and loved that GK tone, I would definitely go with a neo-combo. They are a great value, loud, and sound fantastic.

There are plenty of threads on here comparing the various models (210, 212, 115, 112) but for your needs I would suggest the 210, which is also the best sounding in my opinion. You could even use it at your smaller sized gigs and jams since it is so light and easy to carry, but incredibly loud (drummer volume easy).

Can't beat it for 6 bills: power, portability and tone.

Having said that, I am an Aguilar man

Good luck!

P.S. Too bad you're not in the Frisco, CA area.

In this case, I think you're making the right move. And, those new neo GK combo's are really nice, I'd prolly opt for the 212 version.

What about a GK Backline 600 head? You'd be at home with the dashboard, and it would be an easy backup unit.

Fdeck and others will tell you it's a sleeper--way more good stuff than the going price reflects. It would give you a little more all-around gigging versatility.

They show up for sale here intermittently.

Well Ive got a gigging rig already... looking to trade my practice amp/cab and get a combo to use at my house.

I think Im sold on the idea of a combo now. I just need to search around and find someone who wants to trade. I'll keep searching craigslist.
