Care to guess the details on what I have here?
Okay, let's be honest. You didn't click here to guess the details, you want to know them! Well, I found these two Quantum cabs which I believe to be a Canadian micro-guitar amp brand for $30. As it turns out, 3/6 drivers were blown. I sourced a 6.5" replacement for the 4x6 (
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/55-1170) and an 8" replacement for the 2x8 (
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/55-1605). I figured I might as well replace all the cheap car speaker style drivers in there and replace them with similar kinds of midbass drivers. MCM had a 15% off sale with free shipping, and bam! I have 6 speakers for $67. Score!
Today I found them in our living room. (I was at the girlfriend's when they arrived. Who can blame me?

) I put them into the cabinets (2x8 first) and repaired a broken solder tab on a 6.5 before loading that cabinet. They will get loud enough under my 1001RB-II
WITHOUT struggling so as I don't think there's a non-metal act that I can't compete with just with these cabs. To clarify, master was all the way up (no BOOST) and I ran two basses (passive neo singles J, homemade hot mudbucker Bronco) and the volume was at 10 or 10:30 on the clock. That's 4 or 4 1/2 out of 10 to the those not clock savvy. They didn't fight me at all.
The tone isn't great but it's not bad either. I'd say it's 60-70% of what I like. With some EQ work and I could probably hit 85-90%. So all in all, $97 for some SICK cabinets that can take my electrics without complaint and will probably take just as good care of upright duties. Low
B and URB tests to come.
