Should have taken the SVT VR

Played at a "fanzone" at the local opera house before the rugby world cup semi-final. traditional old style opera stage into a large, tall space. My gut instinct was to go with the Ampeg SVT VR into my Berg NV610. Lead guitard persuaded me into taking the Orange AD200 and NV215 cab, which is actually a nicer sounding rig in our quite dry sounding rehearsal space. Long story short, the onstage bass sound was too muddy, despite winding back the bass and boosting tops. Gig went great and out front sound was fine thanks to a good sound guy, but at least now the other guys understand when I try to explain to them that the VR is basically an idiot proof plug and play sound tool for live gigs and that mid punch is a bass essential.

Word. I'm sure the Orange is a killer amp, but only an SVT is an SVT.

I have both exact setups, and I prefer the VR over the Orange.

+1 *Although for me its "had" the exact setups. I sold the Orange and NV610. The VR into a NV412 just kills onstage.
