Should I drop the $400?

My local guitar store is selling an Ampeg SVT Micro head and Micro 210 cab for $199 each. I am tempted. Is $398 as good a price as I think for this? (It's show room new, BTW).

Questions to ask yourself:
  • What will you use this for? Anything at all? It is (more or less) a toy, after all.
  • What does this gear go for used?
  • Are you considering this because it seems like such a great deal or that you've been considering buying it for a while?

If you think you'll have a use for it, that seems like a great price. I'd go for it. Alternatively, if $400 is not a big deal to you, buy it for kicks. The micro stack looks so cute!

I'd use it in my band rehearsals (a basement environment) and, I think it looks cool. $400 is not small change, but the price seems pretty darn good.

Seems pretty good to me, too, considering it's usually $600 for the combo.

It's no more a toy than a combo.

That's a fair price, if you like it, buy it.

My daughter is 21 months old ... too young - but the amp would be perfect for her as she gets older!

I had a ampeg micro head for a few months, great for living room jams. I did not like the headphone or audio in sounds through headphones. It was noisy & no level control.
Great ampeg type tone, impressive internal construction. Made in China, I bet in the same factory the new Acoustic heads are coming from. I liked it alot for a jam amp. I got it from GC Used for 125 in excellent shape. Cool little head IMO.

Well there you are! You can invest in her future!

My thought is that with the current problems with adding a second cab that fact may be behind the lower price.
