should i get an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro Bass Amp Head?

Sign in to disble this ad
opportunity to get a preowned Ampeg SVT-4 Pro Bass Amp Head for £300, (retail around £900)
Ampeg: Pro Series - SVT-4PRO

i have been playing bass for a solid year now, progressed greatly, i currently lack an amp, i have been running through an m-audio using different plug ins for diverse tones and sounds.

i have always been a fan of Ampeg, i love the tone that it gives,
i was looking to get an Ampeg pf500
Ampeg: Portaflex Series - PF-500

but this seems like a great deal, only cosmetic damage

any thought?

I personally, could care less about cosmetic damage. That's up to you. I love the ampeg sound and very enjoy my SVT 7 Pro. If you get the chance to play it and like it, go for it.

I had one and flipped it to pay for a trip + music vacation, have missed it ever since.

The umph factor it has is fantastic! I have two other fantastic, slightly less replaceable heads, which is the only reason that was the first to go on the chopping block.

Unless I end up simply buying a nice crown power amp and building a headcase for my fearful + pedalboard, I'll likely be buying another 4 pro soon as the funds come up.

cosmetic damage doesn't bother me at all,
i made the jump with my second bass,
first being an ibanez SR305,
i managed to haggle a music man stingray down to £650 with the only issue being a relic on the top of the neck,
(luckily above where my hand rests on the first fret,
so its to no annoyance)

really glad, i made the decision, that bass is a beauty, thinking an Ampeg will accompany it wonderfully,

weight shouldn't be an issue, ill be sure to try it out,
a bit of reassurance is great, also what cab would you suggest to accompany it?

What cab? An 810e!

The 4 Pro is a balls amp, and at that price it's hard to go wrong.

nothing id like more than an 810e with it, sadly its far out of my price range, i just need something that will give it some oomph at a reasonable price.

410HE's are usually reasonable. You'd only be able to use one side of your 4 Pro through it, but that's cool...you don't need 1600w for a 410

I recommend using two 4 ohm cabs with the 4 pro.
Run it in stereo as well.

I used one in mono with the 810e and it sucked...

If I could get a 4 pro that cheap, I'd already own one.

Agreed. 4 Pro is a great amp. Quite versatile. The only thing I'd trade it for . . . is a 7 Pro. Hell, I might just get a 7 Pro anyway.
