okay, so i have a buddy that says he will sale me is Br2e rackmount head + a road case for $100. but its broke.

however i life very close to a LOUD dealership and they said they could repair it. cost is unknown yet. but i wouldnt care to spend upwards of $100 to fix it cause thats like getting a br2e head for 200 bucks. and what ever may be wrong with it couldnt be that serious i dont think. its not like he dropped it in water or something crazy, it just kinda stopped working one day.

Ask them what the bench fee is to troubleshoot and give you some idea of what the problem is and what it will cost to fix. That alone could likely eat up most of your $100. See if the guy will let you tinker with it first and check the obvious. Blown fuses (some fuses may be inside). Broken power switches, etc.

So far I don't see 'stupid' anywhere.

UNINFORMED and LACKING EXPERIENCE, prolly, but never stupid.

Stupid happens when people don't ask questions.

Lacking experience is the best way to put it. ive been in a touring band for 2 years now and hardly know anything about my amps. just what the nobs do and how to adjust my truss and action.... im a noob. totally. lol

+1

Asking when you don't know isn't stupid, plowing ahead when you don't know what you're doing can be though.

Amps are fairly complicated things to most of us and $30 is a fairly low bench fee here anyway. May be worth it just to find out what you're getting into. If it turns out the repair isn't worth the money, then your'e out $30...so what. What's $30 now? About a set of strings.

If money's really tight or you're just unsure of the whole thing, save the money and shop around for something used that works.

Either you spend the bench fee before buying it, or pass on the deal.

It's not a good deal if you end up spending $100 and then find out it's nothing compared with the repair cost.

I`d jump on it. It`s $130 loss, worst-case.

Then why are you messing with this B2 thing? Or does the SVT not work either?

alright heres the full 411 now

my buddy found the Br2e and i can go get it checked out at my local shop. also my buddy said that i can get an estimate on repair cost to see if i still wanna buy it after the repair cost. the tech said the bench fee will only be 10 dollars if i decided to not fix it but usually fixes things under 100 dollars without calling me back to see if i wanna fix it.

Or i can get the svt-350(h) for 300 locally.

thoughts?

As far as power/eq and stuff the two are about the same. One "looks like" a tube head, the other is rackmount. And of course, as of now, one works and one doesn't, it's your decision to make.

So basically the real difference is appearance, and of course the 100watt difference. but as far as eq and internals, its the same?

I don't know if they're the exact same circuit, they may have a little different inherent tone from each other but they are both rated 200W@8ohms, 350W@4ohms. Both have the basic bass, mid, treble knobs plus a graphic eq.

Edit: some links, compare for yourself, keep the repair in mind as well.
