should I trade National amp for superbassman

Sign in to disble this ad
To scratch my itch for a different amp, I am offering to trade my band-leader and friend my 1963 National Val-Verb guitar amp for a 1969 Fender Superbassman head. I used to own the Superbassman; it was thoroughly re-capped and biased, and I have a big old 412 cabinet to run with it. Do you guys think this is a good deal in terms of the amps being relatively the same in value?

totally do it, SB's are super cool! careful tho, bandleaders can be absolute schmucks, don't trust them as far as I can throw them. And real bass amps don't have reverb...make sure you get the 2x10 too...

superbassman trade

Just a follow-up. I did swap my 1963 National Val-verb combo amp for a 1969 Fender Superbassman head. My intrepid band-leader and friend included a Tube-Works 210 bass cab as well! For those who may be wondering about this old beast, it is a very simple head running 4 6L6 power tubes and 3 12AX/U pre-amp tubes to produce 100 watts RMS. I've been happy with it's 2 or 3 basic tones as they are round, warm and vintage loud ; that's what's in my head as desirable- for me. It doesn't have that emphasis on the 41.2 -55.0 hz with the scooped mids like my Ampeg amps, but it gives a nice midrangey Jacoesque tone when I play back over the soloed bridge pup. I like that. Sounds best with a 4 ohm 15" old Jensen P15L. One of the previous owners put it in a Bassman 135 box , so it's regular size rather than the 12" high Dual Showman size. It was recapped and had a variable bias trim pot installed a while back so it's ready to play.
