Showing off new amp/showing off steal of a deal.

So here it is. After months of research and playing different models trying to learn the differences, I finally behold my rig.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

it may not be the best rig in the world, but I got all of this separately for under $500!!!

The Avatar 212 is practically brand new. The drivers are still tight and the body is perfect.

The peavey tour 700 has tons of power and only has a few scratches from being in a rack.

For $500 I dont think you can find a better setup. We play alternative hard rock/metal and this thing cuts above everyone else.

And while Im at it Im going to show off my new bass as well.

This EDC 700 does not have a single scratch on it. I got it with the case for $200

All in all, a full bass setup for $700. Just gotta be a craigslist warrior with a lot of patience.

I may have spoke too soon lol. How do you check if a speaker is blown? The bottom 12 is not moving at all. When Ive blown speakers in my car they still try to move. It worked when I bought it and its just sat so I dont know what I couldve done to it.

Wow. I took the grill off and the bottom speaker was hard as a rock and stuck all the way out. I popped it back in which was friggin hard! Now its fine. Never seen a speaker do that.

Great setup. I owned the 5 string version of that bass. Does it smell like a leather tannery and a kerosene factory?

I liked the bass, couldn't stomach the smell lol.

Is that 212 Avatar 4ohm or 8 ohm? If it's 4ohm that 700 could damage it if you are cranking it.

Edit: Especially of you are diming the gain or using distortion. I owned the 4ohm 212 version and it could take a pounding, but it had it's limits. I see you have one of the lower EQ sliders completely boosted (don't know if you played it that way).

That's actually my exact practice setup. I haul out my Mesa PH412 for shows, but the Avatar Neo 212 is a great cab, and my Tour 700 loves it. It's definitely a good combo, that's for sure.

Take the grill off again with the rig shutdown, gently push in a few times on that cone and see if you hear any scraping sounds coming from inside the speaker.

The thing was likely outdone by a combination of power and low frequency boost. The cone got rocked and stuck in the out position with the voice coil caught on the edge of the magnets gap. While you're at it, touch the end of your speaker cable with a 9v battery to insure all the cones move in and out together.

I want the 5 version if I can find one cheap enough. This is my 4th one, but its the 1st one that actually has the kerosene smell. My others weren't kept in a case, that might be why.

It is the 8 ohm so Its only taking in 500 watts.

Those eqs arent the way I play em, thats how they were when I got it from the guy.

Actually yeah I can hear a little scraping that I cant in the other.

Do I need to take it out and pull it away?

The scraping is the voice coil rubbing the magnet inside. If it isn't all the way blown now, it will be shortly. Going to need a new one I'm afraid....sorry.

The Avatars are OEM models, I don't think re-cone kits are available for them. If your's is the 8ohm 212, you will need one 4ohm replacement 12 from Avatar.

Don't keep playing it like it is. When the voice coil does short all the way, it could hurt the amp. Some TB'er might have they driver they might sell you for less than brand new cost. I have 2 of them but I have uses for them....again, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but get it fixed before you hurt the amp.

I already checked with them. They use am eminence speaker in this model and they referred me to eminence to get a replacement directly.

The Avatar drivers are spec'd quite differently than the stock eminence. They won't be the same speaker, unless Avatar changed something sometime and started using stock spec emi. drivers, which woyld actually be a good thing.

Email Eminence customer service with all the numbers you can find on the back of that driver. They will tell you if it's stock or OEM and go from there. You need a 4ohm driver to make an 8ohm cab, that much alone tells me it's OEM as emi does not offer a 4ohm deltaliteII2512 to the general public.

According to avatars website the b212 comes with eminence delta LF 12 speakers, but mine is the one with the lightweight neo speakers.

I think the technical name would be "B212neo" or something like that. Anyway, if yours are neo's (tiny magnet with cooling fins around it) it's an OEM version of the DeltaliteII2512, not the same as the one anybody can buy from Eminence.
