Show'n some Ampeg B100-R and B50-R Love

Sign in to disble this ad
I know there's a lot of cool new amps out there but there's something to be said for these great combos. I used to have a B100-R and sold it because of TB inspired gas. After running through a bunch of gear, I found myself wanting to go full circle. This little B50-R popped up on Craiglist last year and it was love at first note. It had been used and abused but after a major cleaning and a recent trip the shop to replace a few resistors, clean the pots and replace the power light, it's back to it's full glory and boy does it sound good! Please share any pics and stories of this mighty duo. I love these guy's! Here's the CL pic and after.

Yours looks nice and I'm sure it sounds great.

I played a gig with my B100R on Friday. I don't gig it often (usually my 2PRO or V4BH). The whole night I was thinking of how good it sounded. IMO, the B100R is the one of best sounding amps ever made.

What's even better than a B100R or B50R? A B100R and a B50R! I usually use one or the other, but for a recent party gig I stacked 'em and used both, using a Sansamp BDDI to split my signal to the two amps. What a killer combo-combo! Got the big booty and low-mids from the 100, and the upper-mids and highs from the 50. Woo-hoo!

The B100-R is one of my favorite combos ever, so much so that I bought two of them! Here's one:

Don't have the basses anymore, but still have the B-100R.

A few years ago, my son wanted to start playing bass. After I realized that he was serious about it, I gave him my B-100R. Shortly thereafter, I missed having a combo and went out and got a Hartke Hydrive 115c(250watts). It's a cool little combo and sounds pretty darn good with lots of "bells and whistles", but I found myself really missing the Ampeg. I finally convinced my son that the Hartke would be the better amp for him than that old-guy Ampeg stuff..... he bought into it So now, I have her back Am I a bad dad?

I guess I've had my B-100R for about ten years now. It has been absolutely bulletproof! I've thought about selling it a time or two but came to my senses before making that big mistake. I'll never sell it now. I'm a huge fan of tube amps and feel SS amps sound two dimensional and thin. Tubes to my ears sound three dimensional and thick. Having said that, my B-100R sounds incredibally "Tubey" so I think there is some magic going on within the B-100R. I don't know what it is, or how it does it, but it works! The B-100R is an exceptional amp IMHO.

I gig regularly with a B-100R running alongside a '63 B15N. If it's Diamond Blue check, you can't go wrong!

Wow. I thought the B100R/B50R was the killer combo-combo, but I stand corrected....

I'm curious how you set up the two amps. Do you send the same signal to both, or send an affected signal of some sort to one and a dry signal to the other?

Here's both my B100R combos:
(I installed in-line speaker jacks in each so I'd have the option of using them as cabs with 300 watts of tube power)

Sorry for the crappy picture...

Typically I split my signal with a tuner pedal. I set the B15 with the treble at noon, and the bass knob all the way up, sometimes backing it off to 3:00. This cab then gets micd for FOH. On the B100R, I engage the ultra lo and ultra mid, boost the bass way up, cut the low mid, then keep the high mid and treble at about noon. Running this way, the B100R gives me the boomy scooped low end the soundman doesn't like.

I love it! Now you need a head enclosure wrapped in Diamond Blue Check!
