Shuttle 3.0 question.

Sign in to disble this ad
I played a shuttle 3.0 head , very briefly through an svt410hlf cab.... liked it, but the head was sold before I could buy it.
One year later, I am thinking of buying one. But, I was wondering how the 3.0 compares sound wise, to the other Genz Benz amps.. 6, 9, 12 etc.

No responses, I want to switch to a Shuttle... help!

I have had no responses. Can someone direct me to a thread that makes these comparisons. I have been searching to no avail. Thank you

I don't know if there are any threads on this question precisely, but there is certainly plenty on all the Shuttles.

A significant number of players here seem to prefer the FET preamp of the 3.0 to the single tube of the 6/9.0, and it may be for this reason that Genz added the extra FET channel to their ShuttleMax line.

My teacher (even an old bugger like me has one! NB: doesn't mean quite the same thing in English-speaking countries as for American speakers) has the Shuttle 3.0 and I play through it when I visit him. Very nice tone, very clean and "open".

Best thing is to make your own comparison at a store if there's one in your area.

I have the 3.0 combo. I love it for its clarity in the high end & ability to provide a decent low end in such a small package. The eq is good. The boost & scoop options are nice; they give you pretty good control over your tone. sounds fast & tight. Great presence.
Naturally it's not the loudest amp out there but if you have a PA system to line-out to that shouldn't be a problem. 175/300w is enough power for stage presence; unfortunately you will have to rely on a PA system to deliver your sound beyond the stage in a larger setting. Small setting--no problem at all.
I would describe it as modern sounding amp opposed to an old classic, however, I'm able to get a classic sound by pulling back on my tone knob. I typically don't like the thought of that but that's the way it is with the 3.0.
I think it kinda resembles the 6, but when you look at the 9 & 12 heads it doesn't seem like a proper comparison. there are more controls & details in the options with 9 & 12, + more channels. 9 & 12 are also prohibitively expensive for me.
In short, it will move your room but not the earth.
The best thing to do of course is go to a place that sells them, plug your bass in sit with it for a while. It's like dating someone: you'll know in a few minutes if you're into it or not. And no one can make this decision for you.

Search for threads on the Shuttles - there are threads that discuss the minor differences in the 3.0, 6.0 and 9.0 voicing at great length.

I own the 6.0 and think it's a very sweet amp with more power than I'll ever need.

I just got a 12.0 and 4x10" cab at such an amazing price, in fact the price was so low I actually didn't even bother looking at the others. Store was desperate to move stock.

The Shuttle 3.0 FET tone is awesome, I actually prefer it to the 6.0, the 9.0 sounds more beefy which I prefer over the other two. All different flavors of awesome!

I ask questions from as many people as I can. Your answers confirm my feelings about 3. 6 . 9
You say you prefer the beefiness of the 9 over the 3 and 6.
Would you be willing ( it stumps me to put sound into words!! ) to add a little more to your description of the 9.0 ? I play an svt now, and because of 1. the low volume required 2. auditorium sized room 3. the ported 410 cab which emphasizes bass
I am a little afraid to get more "beefy" than the 3.0 unless I can get a little better idea of the 9.0 vs the 3.0.
Best to hear them IN the room WITH the same cab... but that is unlikely.
I appreciate your evaluation. Thank you
