Shuttle 6.0 - 12T combo, what extension cab and other suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been eyeing the shuttle 6.0-12T combo for a while. Actually almost a year.. and now there finally is a Genz Benz dealer not too far from where I live.

I have been thinking about the 6.0 12T to have something easily transportable to rehearsals or small recordings anywhere, even little semi-acoustic gigs. But I want to have the possibility to be a little more loud if I have a gig in a bigger place without a PA.

The most obvious extension cab would be the STL 12T.. but I dont know if 2x 112 cabs is a good idea or not. Would it better to look at another speaker size for an additional cab?

Also, does anyone know if both STL 112's stack well together? that's also a decision factor if they are unstable when stacked..

I intend to use the shuttle with an EBMM Bongo. Any advice against?

thanks in advance for your suggestions

Genz Benz makes a 12" extension speaker specifically for that combo. Check out their website.

First- thanks for your interest in GB.
Second- Answering will two 12'x be a good combo? That is the most popular configuration we sell. No matter if it is our Neox-212T cab, our Uber 2x12 cab or a 1x12 combo with a 1x12 extension.
Third- Yes, the Shuttle 6.0 1x12 combo will stack on top of the extension cab.

thanks again.

I vastly, vastly prefer the sound of Neox 112T's over the shuttle 12 cabs. But they are much bigger and quite a bit heavier. Still easily portable cabs, however.

When I had the 6.0-12T, the best ext. cab 'for me' was an Epifani UL210. Stacks vertically and the 210 had monumental lows! Totally IMO.

I really like the 6.0/12 with the matching 1x12 extension cab. I tried a number of different cabs underneath the combo, but I ended up preferring the matched set the best. It stacks great and looks great. For the record, though, I did not try the NeoX-112T.

Matching cab for me. Stacks well. Tweeter in both gives some flexibility. Combo can be angled with built in stand on the extension. Remember the 6.0 (as well as the extension cab of course) are speakon only. That's the only thing I really dislike about the Shuttle series.

I bough the Shuttle 6.0 112T combo a year ago and, on the advice of Jeff Genzler, added the NEOX 112T. It's a killer combo.Jeff said he would recommend adding the SHT112T extension cab only if space is your primary consideration. I had previously owned the NEOX 400 combo, which was the NEOX 122T with an amp in the same cab. That NEOX cab puts out a tom of bottom.I've never had to run the Shuttle past noon on any of the gain or volume knobs, and that's with a pretty loud six-piece band with PA support. Without the NEOX, I couldn't feel the bass. with it, I can feel it and hear it better, but without adding a lot of volume.

I've used mine paired up with an Avatar SB112 Neo. Sounds pretty good to me. With the 112T angled up at me, I can hear myself quite well, and the SB112 really helps extend the low end.

I'm guessing "Jeff' is young? Weight was a criteria for me too.

I have the Shuttle 6.0 - 210T, but I also have a Neox 112 and a Neox 212. The 212 is 4 ohms so that's a factor to consider. I take the head off the Shuttle a lot and use it with the Neoxes. Sounds great. My basic gigging rig lately (for small to medium size bars) is a passive 62 RI Fender Jazz into an EBS ValveDrive into the Shuttle 6.0 into the Neox 112. Small rig that kicks pretty serious butt.

but back to your original question -

either the matched 12 or the Neox 112 would work great IMO. All 8 ohm cabs The 212 is 4 ohms so that doesn't work. Playing with an EBMM sounds great too. I use a fretless Sterling at venues where I can't fit an upright, and I also have a Ray. Great basses.

If you are totally happy with your tone add the matching extension cab. If you want a little more low end booty goodness add a NeoX 112T and turn the bottom tweeter off.

Either way = win. I would not trade my NeoX 212T for anything. It always gets the job done.

hey guys, sorry I got a bit cut off of the internet due to work.. first of all thanks a lot for all your replies!

gm2_in_co : why do you dislike the speakon?

I might just get one 112 for now and try to see what other one matches best.. but one of the biggest considerations for me IS the weight and space it takes..

I'll try and phone the dealer see whats possible to test-play etc.. maybe I don't really realise if the weight difference is that big between the Neoxes and STLs..

Well, I have 1/4" speaker cables everywhere mainly. I just think double jacking would have given people options. But then, they also saved a few dollars by not even jacking the combo cabinet at all and instead running the cable straight in which I also think seems "cheap."

Jeff (As in Jeff Genzler, the Genz part of Genz-Benz) is mid-50s, about 6 years younger than I am . But his primary consideration was amount of bass response from a small cab. the NEOX 112T weighs 37 pounds, the SLT-112T 27 pounds. The amount of bass out of the NEOX 112T far surpasses that of the SLT-112T. Since I don't move the rig much, that extra 10 pounds doesn't factor in.

it isn't about saving dollars for us. We sincerely believe that in this day and age, pro rigs should use "Speakon" only.

Also, for international safety regs, that is the way that we'll need to go in the future anyway....for rigs over 300 watts

Interesting note on the safety issue. And the rationale on "hardwiring" The cab on the 12t?
