Shuttle 6.0 and Markbass 4x10 distorting at low levels?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

My current setup is an Ibanez SR500, a Genz Shuttle 6.0 and a 4x10 MarkBass cab. I was recently messing with the active EQ on my bass, boosting bass and mids, cutting treble etc to try and get a jazzier tone. I did end up with a fantastic jazzy tone, but then noticed that my amp had become very quiet, and quite distorted, like playing hard at all would make it distort. It sounded great for jazz but I rolled off all my changed settings and it's still doing it. The O/L light on the Shuttle wasn't clipping and I was playing at probably 9 o clock on the master volume? All the lights on it are fine. I switched it off and on again yet its still happening, albeit a little better. What's happened?!

Thanks a lot

with any situation like this, you have to start ruling out the variables:
* is the problem in your eq'ing, in the bass, in the head or in the cab?
* have you checked the battery in the bass?
* have you tried different cables?
* If your bass has an eq bypass, try that to see what happens.

I'd try leaving your bass passive, putting the eq on the amp "flat" and really try to push some air. From there, see what happens and if you could find the source of the problem.
