Shuttle 6.0 stress

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got home after a long night's gig. First we installed a new compressor in our PA rack. Learning curve for sure. Then got my Shuttle 6.0 in a rack with my tuner and wireless. Plug in and ready to go. No sound. I go to the amp and hear a weird low. Using sound. It stops, no sound ever again. However I was able to use the DI on the Shuttle all night and play thru the PA.

The amp section is DOA. After three years of regular usage it died. I will be contacting Genz on Monday. They're great at customer service. I hope they can help not a good time to buy a replacement.

Did the protect LED turn on?

Have yo double-checked to be sure it wasn't a bad speaker cable?

Check these things first.

Thanks aged horse. First things I looked at. The protect LED did not turn on. Swapped speaker cable-no luck.

Also, the signal LED never came on all night but the DI worked.

Check your cabinet with a 9V battery across your speaker cable. f it's OK you should get a healthy clunk out of it.

Try cyclingthe effects return jack a few times and see if the problem goes away. It may be thatthe switch inside the jack has hung up or is intermittent from lack of use, dirt, etc.

Do this first.

UPDATE

I unplugged the effects from the send and return and the amp worked perfectly!!

I tried cycling the return jack a few times but it didn't worked. Still caused the amp to cut out.

At least my Shuttle is back!!!!! THat rocks!!!!

Any other suggestions to get the effect loop to work again?

Thanks.

Without the effects inserted, does the amp work correctly?

Is it possible that there is a bad effects cable or effects unit?

Another possibility is that a bad cable plug, typically a budget Asian made connector, did not conform to the standard radiusing and dimensions that are expected by industry standard jacks and the internal tip contact got bent or folded under (also damaging the switch) causing the problem. This is a reasonably common problem that all manufacturers encounter from time to time. It's amazing what comes out of some ofthese "your name here" cable factories, missing radius on the back side of the tip will just tearthe guts right out of any Switchcraft style jack. Look closely at your plugs (all of you) to weed these plugs out of your gear.

TIP: Try plugging a “good” instrument cable into the effects loop in/out and if the amp works you know the problem is a bad cable or effect and not the amp.

The amp works perfectly without the effects plugged in.

Gives me a nice warm feeling, discussion like this.
Sorry to hijack, but MY trusty Shuttle 6.0 went futzy yesterday at a gig
Making a "kkkkkkk" static type sound, like a loose connection somewhere in there. Made it when the (outdoor portable) stage vibrated- eg. from the kick drum, from my louder notes.
I put my soft jacket under it to finish the set & this helped JUST enough to get thru to the break, when I swapped it for my SVT 7 PRO & all was sweet for the rest of the gig.
So, any suggestions??? It'd still be under warranty, but I bought it from the USA (I'm in Aus), so I'd have to pay postage no doubt.
Just wondering if anyone else's had a similar prob?
May it be the tube a bit loose?
Do I void the warranty if I take the lid off & wiggle the tube ???

Then it sounds like the problem is within the signal processing or cabling outside of the amplifier.

It's possible that it's an intermittent effects loop (try the suggestions above), an intermittent or bad tube (do you have a spare to replace it with) or possibly (but unlikely) that one of the internal connectors has come loose.

With the power unplugged, you can remove the top and replace the tube with a spare (you will need a small nut driver to loosen the retainer), and while you are at it, check to see that all of the internal connectors are fully seated. Not just the connectors at the back edge of the PCBs, but also the jumper connector that is behind the master volume control.

You can always PM me for help.

Thanks. I've got plenty of 12_ _7 tubes to swap. I'll pm you if need be.
Sounds like something simple to me, thanks for the help.
The Shuttle did sound great all the time, even while this prob was happening.... If that makes sense?

I tried the effect and those cables on another amp source. there were no problems. I'm thinking it must be the send/return jacks on the amp.

Word. If you plug a “good” instrument cable into the amp effect loop and the amp works you will know the send/return is ok - it the amp doesn’t work you will know it is the send/return.
