I have a Shuttlemax 12.0 ,have owned 2 Streamliner 900s and have owned the Shuttlemax 9.2.
The Shuttlemax 9.0 would meet my needs. |

The Shuttlemax 9.0 would meet my needs. | There never was a ShuttleMax 9. It always had the updated power management system, and hence the .2 designation.
Again, there is very little difference between the .2 and the 'original' models in the 9 series and 12 series amps. The 6 versus 6.2 is a significant revoice and update.
There is no way (IMO and IME) that you would be able to identify the 12 versus 12.2 or the Shuttle 9 versus Shuttle 9.2 in a blind listening test. So, don't sweat the '.2' version if you are looking at the 9 series amps.
So, for your needs (a large 4ohm cab), if you want the 'maximum performance' from a Genz head, depending on your size and tone goals, you would want either the Shuttle 9.2 (or 9), the Shuttle Max 9.2, or the Streamliner 900.
If you dig your Shuttle Max 12 with that big Aguilar cab, the Shuttle Max 9.2 will sound virtually identical, with just a bit more volume and headroom and a bit more open low end when really pushed.

Ken, myself and one of my buddies took a SM 9.2 to my church ,plugged it in and did a side by side comparison to the 12.0.
I also ran a Streamliner 900 for three weeks with the cab.
I'm back to the SM 12.0 but may check out the Shuttle Series. |

Again, if you heard differences between the Max 9.2 and Max 12, other than the 9.2 having more headroom when pushed, then either you didn't have the gains matched (the gain structure is a bit hotter on the .2 amps), or there was something wrong with the unit.
Since you also said that you 'liked' the 12 better then the 12.2 (which is really strange, since the differences are VERY minor with those two versions), something else is going on here, and I would hate to see you make the wrong decision based on 'user error'.
What differences did you hear between 'half the 12' and 'half the 12.2', and also 'half the 12' and the Max 9.2? |

We tweaked the settings for over an hour but I think the new circuit just has a different voice than the 12.0 series as intended. I agree the differences were minor so I decided to keep my 12.0 until I try the Shuttle 9.0. |

I didn't hear anything different up top, although I agree the 9.2 is a bit fatter and less compressed when really pushed, which maybe would not be a good thing for some. Seems like any slight difference there could be dealt with through the massive EQ capability.
The Shuttle 9 (and 9.2) will sound quite different than your 12. Different front end, much less powerful EQ. Not my thing, but you might dig it. Nice and small!
I guess if you dig your 12, using only half of it is really no problem, and if that gives you enough juice for what you need, you are good to go. |

No wonder I can't find one .... lol! | Yeah, the higher powered Max 9.2 was introduced after the Shuttle 9, and used their newer power management from the start. They then migrated the new power management to the Shuttle 9 (along with a slight revoicing of the on/off filters and gain structure) and Max 12 about a year later (making them the current Shuttle 9.2 and Max 12.2), and did the relatively major revoicing of the Shuttle 6 to the 6.2 at the same time.
Hope you are doing well! |

As always doing great and wishing you and yours a great holiday season.
Man I'm really digging my new Aero bass case. Best purchase I made all year.

Hey, one more comment on all of this. If using half of the Max 12 gets you where you want to go, the BIG advantage to that head, especially for a player like you (and me!) who like to try different cabs, is that there is NO combination of cabs (within reason) that the 12 can't handle. If you use two 8ohm cabs, you get pretty much the same power as the 9 or 9.2 (almost, close enough). If you need to drop below 4ohms (i.e., a 4ohm cab and an 8ohm or two 4ohm cabs) the 12 will handle that wonderfully without getting into the 2ohm thing with a mono block design.
So, pretty cool design, as long as using one side into a large 4ohm cab gets you where you need to go volume-wise. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
