Silly question maybe.. 2 heads into one cabinet

NO.. I don't want to have them both ON at the same time, but just curious.

I have 2 heads.. I will never use them both at the same time, is it safe to leave them both plugged into the same cabinet (one using the 1/4" jack, one using the speakon?) This is simply out of curiousity... it's only slightly more convenient than moving the cable so I don't need to do it.

(I wonder what would happen if I did have them both going at the same time )

I used to do this a long time ago. But I had a 2x15 with each speaker wired to one jack. So the Bassman was running one 15" the Peavey was running the other one.
In the long run what you are trying to do is be too lazy to swap speaker cables.
This is a bad idea, I would make sure that you work out a routine such that you are always positive that you have the other head unplugged.
For instance I have twice blown up my tube bass head because a speaker cable wasnt plugged in.
So I always plug the speaker in before I even plug the power in. Then when I switch the standby switch to on, I feel around back to be sure the speaker is still plugged in.
EVERY TIME!
So ask yourself, is the convenience worhthow much your amp cost?

Think about what you're proposing--since the cabinet's speaker jacks are hardwired together in parallel, plugging two heads into the jacks is the same as plugging each head's speaker out into the other head's speaker out. Even if one head is turned off, you would be sending one amp's power into the other's speaker out jack plus all components that are wired into that jack, such as the power amp transistors. It will smoke them instantly.

There's a simple solution here. They make them for solid state, tube, or both.
