Slaving a 400 RB

Sign in to disble this ad
I love my old ('87) G-K 400 RB so much that I bought it's twin sister and thought I could drive both of their power amps from one amps' pre-amp via the send & return jacks. Wheather I use a Y cord or any of a number of active buffers and drivers it sounds bad.It does work but poorly. What am I missing?

have you tried using the direct out from the master to the return of the slave?

Nothing, the effects send to the slaves effects return should work beautifully. I do this from the Fusion 550 to a 800RB sometimes. Does the new to you amp sound good on its own?

Where are you patching into the second amp... at the input or return?

Hmmmm.....I was just looking at the schematic for that amp, and you should be able to go from the send of the master, right to the return of the slave. the connection from the master preamp still goes to boost, then master as long as nothing is in the return.

I just did that last night with my new MB2-500,DI out of the MB into the retun on the 800rb.Make sure the master on the 800rb is turned up I found I got a bigger sound if post on the DI was used.

My 2 cents,YMMV

This makes sense to me and I'll try it tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to think it through.
