Small 4 ohm cabs... suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi !

I got tired of trying to find a practice combo I like... so I'm thinking of a smaller cab to be able to use my SVT as a practice amp without having the whole house rattling (8 x 10 inch speakers move lots of air... you could also say it moves your hair!). Anyways, the SVT works in either 4 or 2 ohms. What small 4 ohm cab, maybe a 1x12 or a 2x10 max, would you recommend? It needs to be able to reproduce the low B of a G&L L-2500 without farting out! Budget : let's keep it low. I'd love not to spend more then 600$ but I don't know if it's realistic.

The CARVIN BRX10.2 is a nice affordable 4 ohm cab that def can handle low B.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I use Peavey Bass 400 w/Peavey 1810 cab (2 x10, and 1 x 18) That thing will do everything from acoustic sets to producing quite a rumble. Pardon my ignorance, what is SVT?

I have used 12's and do not like, muddy. I have been using Carvin 4 x 10 that worked quite well, but not the sound I want. Find an old Music Man 115 cab and put a really good speaker in it. That will really move some air. Should have seen the guitar players face when he got in front of it with his pants flapping in the wind. You can stack 2 of them, bottom one with port to the floor and top w/port to the ceiling. I will send measurements if you want to roll your own.

I just sold a Yamaha BBT210 that was pretty awesome for practice. Fairly light (~45lbs) and can handle the low B pretty well and it's 4 Ohm! If you can find one of those, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, I'll be following this thread. A 4 ohm 210 cab is exactly what I'm in the market for, also. I was looking at combos like the Rumble 350 and GK MB210, but I quickly realized I don't need to spend the additional dough on more electronics when I can just use my current head (GK Backline 600).

I'd suggest a used Schroeder 1212L or one of the Avatars... the B212 ($437 w shipping @ 56lbs) or B210 ($344 w shipping @ 44 lbs). Wont break the bank and decent cabs. I have a 1212L 4 and a B212 8 and I like them both... they are good cabs and Avatar is ghreat bang for the buck..

+1 on the Avatars. I have been using one or two B210s for practice, rehearsal and gigs. They go plenty deep, sound decent even at a low enough level not to wake the wife in the next room, and they are rated at 500W if you want to get a little louder (or a lot louder).

They also sell a 4 ohm 112, but it's the same size as the 210, not much lighter, and only $30 cheaper.
