Small amp/cab recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
My son has been using the B-DEC as a practice amp for the past 1.5 years. He has just switched to a 6-string bass (Ibanez SR706) and it's clear that more power is needed.

I'd like to find a small combo (of amp/cab) he could carry that would still sound good and have plenty of power.

Some choices under consideration: Mark 121P or 151P and Ibanez Promethean. I'm ready to consider anything as long as it's light, powerful, and can handle a variety of musical styles (i.e. clarity for jazz and some thump for rock).

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Either one of the GK neo combos, or the Markbass 2x10 combo. Those would be my top choices if you are completely set on a combo amp as opposed to an Amp+cab setup.

A good used SWR Redhead would be a good fit, new they are a bit more than $1000. Not as light as we'd all like, but a great all-around amp. A used Mesa Walkabout is another good amp to look for used. Sometimes you can get a lot more for your money searching the used market.

Check out the GK MB212, if they're not gone from everywhere yet.
