Small Amp/Monitor Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I am beginning the search for a small bass amp to act as a monitor for playing at church. I've been going direct to the PA. For monitoring, I've been using the church's Aviom system, but since we don't mike the drums, I'm becoming less and less satisfied with that route. I'm thinking I'd rather find a small amp to act only as a monitor. I would likely use it at low volumes. I'd like it to be small and relatively cheap, as I'd like to leave it at the church. I'm open to used amps as well. I'm just looking for options at this stage.

Unfortunately, Phil Jones bass gear is not very cheap. If you look on line at Phil Jones Pure Sound you'll see amps like the Briefcase, which would be perfect for your use at church.

Would any of the Bass-Pak Fender BP15-types work? They aren't very powerful and have a puny speaker - (I think a speaker is any driver under 10-inches) - but they can be had for a song and a dance.

They WILL drive an 8 Ohm side cab though pretty well!

I know that for sure as I've done that a few times, and I see them all the time on CL for $25.00 or less.

I've dropped my Acoustic B20 like it's going out of style on this board, but hey:

20 watts into a 12" speaker
4-band EQ
lightweight 30lbs. ish?
Really cool blue light haha

Peavey Basic 60. Can be found in most pawn shops for $100-125. Will handle a 5 string well at reasonable volume levels.
