Small cab

Hey,

I currently have quite a big rig; Genz Benz STL 9.0 amp, 2x410 cabs.

I'm gonna be going off to uni in a week and obviously I can't take my rig cos it's massive, so I'm in the market for a small portable amp.

I used to own a Stagg BA-20 amp, which is around the size I'm after now, but I sold it because it was never any good for my playing style which mostly consists of aggressive slap. The amp couldn't handle it and used to cut out, like it had a built-in compressor. Maybe it just had a weak preamp...

Anyways, not really looking to spend much, just a cheap thing will do. So long as it sounds alright.

Recommendations and advice welcome, and greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I can't think of a single small cheap amp that will have the sound of a big rig. That's why people use big rigs- tone and volume. If you're looking for a specific sounding small combo, you should go amp shopping.

Maybe your GB STL 9.0 head and one or two 210 cabinets.
You'd still have the head your "used to" and you'd still be using 10" speakers that your "used to".
Use one 210 for rehearsals/small gigs, both 210 cabinets when you need more volume and coverage. Use your two 410 cabinets for the big stuff.

As to inexpensive cabinets I'd suggest checking out Avatar's 210 Neo cabinets.
I've got two of them...love em'.
