Fender Bassman 20. Highly under valued amp! There is one for sale in the classifieds by the way. |
Mesa Buster Bass... somewhat high powered (180w), not super small or light in 2x10/1x15 configurations. There aren't tons of small tube combos that I can think of. |
That Mesa is incredible I have to check out that Fender |
The fender silverface bassmans are pretty nice, and easy to get parts for should the need arise. B15's are pretty expensive, but that tone is legendary. Used on countless recordings for very good reason. Any way you decide to go, make sure the amp is in good working order and that you can get tubes. Some obscure tubes are hard to find and expensive. Keep it simple. |
Trace Elliot made a 200w combo- 210 iirc Oh, Fender Studio Bass 1x15" combo '78-'81 Ashdown LB-30/115 & 200 Dropheads |

I advocate the Bassman 20, Boogie Buster, and B-15. I own 2 of the 3 right now and Fuzzie's 20 was nothing to scoff at through his Kustom 215. |
Thanks! The B15 is awsome. And that SB12 I had was awsome. But the Bassman 20 is just a completely different animal! And they are so cheap used for a point to point hand wired amp! |

Oh well i will be very interested to play one! I just love low powered tube amps! |
I'm not sure I'd call any of these but the Bassman 20 "small" (and even that has a 15" speaker) If you really want small there's that Monique preamp thing, seems just right for recording. Spendy though. |
Most suggestions were based on the small wattage. Did he mean overall size? |

I will be very amazed if you can get one cheaper than a used one! I will throw out a guess of $1,500 to $2,000 |
