Is their any worth checking out? I'd like to get one for recording purposes.

Fender Bassman 20. Highly under valued amp! There is one for sale in the classifieds by the way.

Mesa Buster Bass... somewhat high powered (180w), not super small or light in 2x10/1x15 configurations. There aren't tons of small tube combos that I can think of.

mjac28 11-23-2012 09:08 PM

That Mesa is incredible I have to check out that Fender

The fender silverface bassmans are pretty nice, and easy to get parts for should the need arise. B15's are pretty expensive, but that tone is legendary. Used on countless recordings for very good reason.
Any way you decide to go, make sure the amp is in good working order and that you can get tubes. Some obscure tubes are hard to find and expensive. Keep it simple.

Trace Elliot made a 200w combo- 210 iirc
Oh, Fender Studio Bass 1x15" combo '78-'81
Ashdown LB-30/115 & 200 Dropheads

There great amps with clean tone to die for. But they tend to be hard to find. It is believed there may have been as few as 500 made. But when you do find them they go from 350 to 500 bucks. Like I said there is one here now for 350. Anyone who would like to test drive mine in the Cincinnati area pm me.

New imported B-15 slated to come out in the near future.

I advocate the Bassman 20, Boogie Buster, and B-15. I own 2 of the 3 right now and Fuzzie's 20 was nothing to scoff at through his Kustom 215.

fuzzy beard 11-25-2012 06:24 PM

Thanks! The B15 is awsome. And that SB12 I had was awsome. But the Bassman 20 is just a completely different animal! And they are so cheap used for a point to point hand wired amp!

No idea on price, bro.

fuzzy beard 11-25-2012 07:28 PM

Oh well i will be very interested to play one! I just love low powered tube amps!

CnB77 11-25-2012 07:31 PM

I'm not sure I'd call any of these but the Bassman 20 "small" (and even that has a 15" speaker)

If you really want small there's that Monique preamp thing, seems just right for recording. Spendy though.

fuzzy beard 11-25-2012 07:36 PM

Most suggestions were based on the small wattage. Did he mean overall size?

Holy crap that is interesting wow. I have always wanted a B15 or B12 so maybe this is my chance to get one at a price I can afford. Just sayin.....

fuzzy beard 11-25-2012 07:48 PM

I will be very amazed if you can get one cheaper than a used one! I will throw out a guess of $1,500 to $2,000
