Smoking Ashdown Evo III 500 combo

I've got a bit of a problem. Last night at practice when I turned my Ashdown ABM C210T-500 EVO III Bass Combo on, it started smoking from the back panel and there was an ominous dying amp smell. Before I take it in to be repaired, does anyone have a clue or experience of what that could be?

I know absolutely nothing about electronics so I'm reluctant to take anything apart for further diagnosis, but I know a man who does. The only problem is that I'm trying to keep all costs down

If anyone has any advice or experience of similar things please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a qualified amp technician, not just someone who knows their way around with a soldering iron. There are no other options, unless you have a warranty on the amp. Find a good tech, and take it in.

if you have warranty, exercise it.
if not, and your friend is an electrical/electronics engineer, let him take a look.. but if he is a plumber or an accountant who "knows his way around with a soldering iron" as Rick says above.. go take it to a dealer or other service centre.

Thanks guys. It looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet. I wouldn't mind, but I'm supposed to be gigging with it on Saturday. The warranty expired a couple of years ago now so it's off to the qualified tech.
