So I just got a goliath 3 cab 2 pair w-my gk 1001 rb (1st series), I barley had a chance to mess with it for like 15min yesterday. When I was playn some crackling was coming through. I tried using a different cable thinking an old cable was the problem and its gotten worse. Its really crackling and makes some popping noises. It hisses like a mug when u barely have the vol at like 1/8 of the 1st tick. Here's another thing, I used the gk head with my carvin amps but those used speak-on cables. Is it possible I have 3 bum cables or is something else the case? |

You could try making or buying a speakon-to-phone-plug adapter. Something like this? |

Is the cab net, or used?
And I presume you're only using the amp's full-range output, not connecting both that and the tweeter output to the cab at the same time.

I bought a can of DeOxit, sprayed it on cable end. I did the plug/unplug thing in all the 1/4" openings of my amp, front and rear. Can't say which was the issue but the noise stopped.
Many also just do this without a contact cleaner and get good results. Seems the inputs get oxidyzed(sp?) from non-use. It's something you can try at home for free before considering a tech. And a inexpensive, quick fix if it works for you. Good luck and keep us posted on your outcome. |

But I thought maybe the contact cleaner might help loosen up the corrosion better and I don't think it hurt to use it. Plus I had a few other basses, pedals with scratchy pots and needed the DeOxit for that. Works great for noisy pots for sure. |

| | | | So I tried plugging it in every output jack, and supprisingly it went away. Kind of weird but it worked. I'd buy that for a dollar! Also that speakon adapter, I noticed when I bought the cab off the guy he was running a genz benz with a speakon cable (and I assumed the cab had speakons as well) then I get home and was like how did he hook up the cab? Is carvin the only place that sells those? Does speakon make a bigger difference that the regular cables? |

| | Development Engineer: Genz Benz | | | | | Regular "contact cleaner" should not be used on anything but contacts, it can destroy pots. DeOxit is generally safe and effective for both applications.

Uh, is there any use for this RS brand contact cleaner? Just asking cause I got a brand new can still just sitting here unused so far. Maybe to melt slugs in the garden? Wife keeps finding her salt shakers outside. LOL

Not really IMO.

| | | | Ok so the noise stopped and came back. I was down a cable to link the head to the cab, so I bought a new speakon to 1/4 in cable hoping it was just a cable. Just to be safe I bought a can of deoxit spray. Put the cable in, noise still. Sprayed it, noise was there at first, then it just disappeared. Took off for the night. Woke up, hooked my pedal board up, back to square one all over again. So I took all the pedals off my board, and sprayed every patch cable and out put of all my pedals. Noise was barely there, then it just disappeared. After jamming I sat down and the noise came back. This is really starting to annoy me because when I had my gk with my carvin cabs i had no issues, and when I bought my goliath cab I tested it at the guys pad and heard no noise. Now I pair these two together and its just a pain in the a$$. Frustrated as hell, please shine some light to help this fix

| | | | Alright, so I pulled out my tiny 15w crate amp just to see if its the bass and not the amp, and I'm getting the same crackle noise. Both amps don't make noise until I plug it up with the bass. What's making the bass cause that noise, a loose wire of some sort? |

| | Development Engineer: Genz Benz | | | | | Ahhh, good troubleshooting grasshopper. Now we are getting somewhere!
First question... is your bass active, and have you changed the battery recently?
Second question... have you checked to be sure the output jack nut is tight?
Third question... do you have a good fretted instrument repair guy that can look at it for you. Once he solves the problem (could be a bad solder joint, connector, etc.) it's a great excuse for you to have your bass set-up fine tuned and balanced out for even better performance.
Let us know what you find.

The good news is that it's also the cheapest and most convenient repair as well as making the bass sound as good as new too!

BTW, my G III sounds great with either my 700RB II or 800RB.

| | | | Mine has 1/4 and banana plugs. I heard half way through production they went from being made in USA to being made in Mexico. So maybe the newer ones have speakon and the USA ones have the 1/4 and banana. |

From what SWR has told me in the past, all pro-line products are made in US, while Workingman series are MIM.
I had a 12 Pack (212, no tweeter) that was MIM
