So I have decided on Aguilar. What setup to use?

I think I am going with the Aguilar speakers. I am thinking the 4x10 8 ohm, and either a 1x15 8 ohm, or 2x12 8 ohm, or a 1x12 8 ohm to get me the 4 ohm needed for my Fender Bassman 100. Any thoughts?

If you are going with the GS series, I've been told (but don't have any experience myself), that the GS410 and GS212 aren't really a good match together and are a little too scooped. I don't know what people's thoughts are on the DB410 paired with the DB212.

Personally, I've paired an S410 with a GS112 to great effect. The S410 cab gives some great punch and definition while the GS112 provides some nice low-end presence. I'd imagine pairing one of my S410s with a GS212 would be Godly.

Why not get matching cabs? Getting a mixed set you have to worrry about which drivers may be getting more power and maybe blow early. Take the 4x10 and the 1x12. The 12 is going to be getting 4x as much power as any of the 10's in the 4x10. Same for the 1x15. Even with the 2x12, each 12 is getting 2x the power of any of the 10s. Assuming the cabinets are rated at equal power handling. Something to consider. Nothing against mixing types of cabs in theory, except they may have odd phase problems to worry about along with unmatched power handling issues.

I understand that one cab may have a different response, and the combination might have a different freq response than 2 of either cabs. However there is a well kept secret in the musical amplification industry that we in the know call "equalization" which alters frequency response also, in a more predictable fashion.

Thanks everyone. I am just looking to get that extra low end from a 12 or 15 along with the 4x10's. I have had both matching cabs and unmatched in past setups.

I know it's not Aguilar, so excuse the "thread-jacking", but if that is a vintage Bassman 100 it would sound pretty wicked-ass with the new Berg AE212, which is a 4 ohm cab.

Based on previous TB posts I've read, there's no specific relationship between the size of the speakers and the lows they produce. It takes a tuned cab to do the job.

If you haven't tested the speakers with you amp, you really don't know how it will sound.

I suggest you take your bass/amp to several stores in your area and find out what sounds good. Doesn't matter the manufacturer.

Unfortunately, there are no Aguilar cabinets in any of the music stores here in Nashville. I drove to all of them today with my Bassman in two. No luck.

Butm, I did hear mesa Boogie Powerhouse. Pretty sweet! I am going to do a poll I think.

Thabnks for the links.

you really don't get any extra low end from a 115 than a 410. you can design cabs to do as much low end as you want no matter what the driver size. now if you just want one cab to be a lot louder than the other, you culd mix them, but there's really no benefit to it.

Depending on your budget, I'd think about two neo 2x12's, one for smaller gigs, two for the bigger ones. Stack them vertically for best dispersion.

Here's a post I just found that you may want to check out that compares some cabs: Another Composite cab build - inspired by Zac

Let us know how it goes.

My main cab is a 4 ohm db212.
I have no idea about your requirements regarding volume/loudness, but the single 4ohm db212 (not GS!) is loud enough for me, even with a 200w all tube amp!
