So what do you think of this deal? (Ampeg Content)

I am trading for an Ampeg SVT3 Pro that is an older American made one from the mid '90s. On my end of the trade is a Behringer Ultrabass BX3000T head (original cost to me $120), and a little very well-built homemade 2-10 cab (cost me $80 and Digitech BSW that cost me $45), plus $20 in gas.
So I am getting this head for a total of about $265. Not bad, ehh?

Those amps are known to have problems. I went though 4 of them for bad solder joints and other issues.

Test it out first, and while it's on knock on the top of the amp like knocking on a door. If it clips or farts stay away.

EDIT: Here is a recent thread AMPEG SVT III issues again

If you can give it a test at some reasonable volumes and gain, and it sounds fine, I'd go for it. Any amp can have problems, tons of users (including me) have had none with their SVT3Pro, though mine is much newer (but also Vietnamese.) If its a good working amp, you could flip it for $400 right out the door.

Also like to mention, I bought mine NEW from Guitar Center 2 years ago (July 4th sale impulse, damn them) and paid $800. Got it home and found it already had a huge scratch from being in the display rack. Recommend a 2-space case, or start a rack project.

Yeah Toastfuzz, this was a specific issue with the USA SVT 3 Pro's from the 90's. I should have mentioned that.

So this is the first thread ever in TB history I can say "thank goodness I got the non-vintage Asian model"?

Hey good luck with it, to me that sounds like a good deal if its in good working order. Hopefully its not priced so low because it has any inherent issues. You know what I would do, turn it on and jam alittle, BS with the guy for 15-20 minutes (leaving the amp on), and then jam on it some more "just to make sure." Do the 90s ones still have the audible fan inside? You can listen for any jingle jangle in the fan, and just make sure the sound is consistent after its been running awhile. Just a thought.
