So.. What's the deal?

I've had a Markbass CMD121p for about a year or two and I love it. I'm really bad at EQing in various rooms but I seem to be at a loss... and maybe someone can help.

the sound I get that's recorded direct sounds better than that which comes out of the speaker...

I have a pair of ROLAND DS-90A studio monitors that I just plugged my bass into while my amp was three stories down in the garage in my car and LOVED it...

So what is the deal?

Is this a pretty typical occurrence or should I maybe take it to guitar center to swap out?

you know, i used to have that combo and i loved it at first too, but there ended up being a lot of things i grew to dislike about the cab. i could get a good sound out of it, but it certainly wasn't ideal to me. i hated the tweeter, and i never really dug the low end response in it. liked the head quite well, but i decided that i just didn't care for that cab.

no matter how much I resist I'm a fender and ampeg guy
