So your eccentric rich uncle sends you some cash...

Ok, here it is.
Your very eccentric rich uncle sends you $1,000. He loves to hear you play bass, but you need a new amp. You have a decent P Bass with flats, and you play small clubs, bars, and occasionally outside shows, etc. Nothing over 300 people. Your music is rock and top 40 cover tunes and a handful of originals. He wants you to get a decent amp. But there are a few rules (think Brewster's Millions).

1. It must be a head and cabinet. No combo.
2. It must be bought new. Nothing used.
3. You have to spend as close to $1,000 as possible without going over.
4. He wants to hear those clear deep down lows.

Any violations of these rules, and he pulls back the cash.

What would you do?

Maybe a GK MB500 and a NEO 4x10. That puts you at $850, enough to get a few tricks to go along with it. You could spend a little more and go with a Mark Bass little mark III and the same cab, that would leave just enough to buy a speaker cable.

i'd tell (ask) him to send me another $500. Might be a little tough to bring it in under a grand new.

Is he including tax ? If he isn't then you can get the Hartke LH1000 (1000 watts @ 4 ohms)$499 and the Hartke Hydrive Neo 410cab (1000 watts @ 4 ohms)$499. If he is including tax just get the Hartke Hydrive Neo HX115 (500 watts @ 8 ohms)$399. U know all the Vic Wooten stuff it really rocks. Check out the specs on this stuff you will really appreciate the Hartke stuff it is good gear.
Depending on what state you are in you can always foot the bill w tax? What could it be $60 $70 $80 on a $1000? 7% 8% 6%? I would twist that tax rule and get the 410 cab I love the 15 but the 410 is the same size I think and 500 watts more He'll have no problem hearing you.

+1....or take it and add a little of your own. That's assuming you have any. By the way..how old are you and why are they sending you money?

you know, i totally forgot you could get a hartke rig for under a grand that would fit the bill. the hydrives are fantastic and i was never a hartke fan in the past.

but i'd still try to squeeze another $500 out of him

Ashdown Mag600 EVO II and a Bergantino EX112ER. You could probably find something louder for the money, but this should sound pretty good and give you some "cut", plus you'll be able to add another cab down the line.
