Any Thoughts?. Thinking of trying a typical 4x10 style cab.

Pine is fine - dense enough to absorb very little and offers some lightness. Just be very sure to use some biscuits or way to lock the individual boards together in a single plane.

I would think it would take a lot of bracing to keep a solid wood cab from vibrating in a bad way.

10" wide planks is going to mean ALOT of seams/joints that need to be sealed and braced.

I'd just build a few bass bodies with that wood - seams/joints and all, and just solid-color the end product.

It worked for me and I use 7 smaller boards at one time for a nice bass I built.

I'll post the end result if you want to see it.

No. It lacks the stiffness and dimensional stability of plywood. Worst case it would suffer joint failure and cracking.

I have some old rickenbacker cabinets with EV 30"s in them, made out of pine.

It is impossible to judge how they sound as I've never heard another 30" speaker in a cabinet made from a different material.

[quote=Giraffe;11129013]Maybe for a low volume, living room type of cab that is not going to be moved around. Pine is not nearly as durable as we are used to in bass cabs (especially larger, 4x10's), which deal with a good deal of stress and brutal vibration. Pine does not take the rigors of the road well! It cracks and breaks way too easily for serious bass cabs.

The smart man makes guitar cabs out of that wood. Guitar players crave the perceived mojo in well-made pine cabs, all those delicious cab resonances and such! Seriously, ask your guitar player friends. Build guitar cabs, sell them

The balance is very good - as good as I have experienced in Fender Jazz and all the Squiers except for the VM-Jag, which is ungodly light!

I can lift the bass by just the front strap lock and it hangs there, balanced nicely.

OK - you asked for it:::
