Solid State Sunn Setup Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Geez thats a lot of S-words...

Anyways, hey guys and gals.
My current rig setup is as follows:
Red Knob Sunn Concert Bass>
Red Sunn 215B

I am going to be purchasing a Sunn Beta Bass Head.

My question is could I plug both heads into the cab at the same time and switch between them with something like this?:

...and now for the part where I explain why I'd like to do this.

I would like for my Tech 21 VT Bass pedal to plug into the "power amp in" on the back of my Concert Bass thus taking it over (as the VT works best IMO with a flat EQ)...

BUT I'd like for the Beta Bass to be unaffected by the VT (seeing as using this head with a flat EQ would be like cutting off Jesse Owens legs at birth). I also find the chance to switch back and forth between the sound of a Beta Bass and an SVT enticing. Also: I know I could split my signal and run the VT into either A or B on the Beta, but I don't want to run that channel flat.

Just trying to make sure if this is safe to do.
And thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry I can't actually answer your question, but as an owner of the Beta Bass Combo, I can tell you that at 100 watts SS power, that head will only go so loud.

In my VERY mis-spent youth, I tried something like this WITHOUT a particular pedal in between to keep from blowing my amp up...

So I blew my amp up. Live and learn - I was 17, and Carter was President.

I'd be VERY VERY careful about trying anything like this. VERY.

Haha, figured it wasn't the safest but may be doable.
Anyway, I think I'm just going to split my signal and feed different effects into the 2 different inputs on the Beta, see how that works and forget about running both amps at the same time.
If I dig out the Concert Bass I'll just slave with the VTB.

Thanks, but no worries on this end.

I know (despite what the ratings say) that the Beta Series amps (100w) are much louder than the Concert Series (300w) so I'm stepping up regardless.

I have another cab, I already have a head for it if I want to run a 2nd rig. I really want to be able to switch between these two heads in a package with just the 2X15.

Looks like I'll be saving up quite a bit of money I think I may even split the signal for the A & B inputs on the Beta Bass as well as run both heads.

Will let you all know how it turns out.

Truthfully i'm not too comfortable with switching a speaker load between two amps. You would have to use a really powerfully rated switch. If the switch DOES fail you could end up with the outputs of one amp driving the outputs of the other. This would be tantamount to driving a full short for both amps. On the other hand Radial products tend to be really well designed.

I've owned both those amps. The result would be similar to this:
