Hi all,
I was wondering if I can do a bass solo with the ampeg sound. I saw Marcus Miller with an EBS and Victor Wooten with a Hartke, but I've never seen somebody like them soloing with an ampeg. Thanks for your opinions!!!! |

Also, the first time I saw Marcus live was in 1985....Bottom Line in New York City. He was playing through an SVT "Fridge". It sounded amazing.

| | | You should look at Ampeg artist endorser. http://www.ampeg.com/artists/
There is some soloist like Steve Bailey and Dave LaRue. |

There are people here willing to do that for you. Send them several hundred dollars. You don't even have to send them your amp! They'll do it psychically.
But no soloing until you pay.

Thanks!! | I'm sorry...I don't.
As reference though- Victor's tone hasn't really changed when he switched from Ampeg to Hartke. Neither has Marcus Millers.

This is why I think Ampeg is limited to classic rock and classic jazz. | I think you are confusing a brand with a specific model. Ampeg makes a wide variety of cabs and amps... some very old school sounding and primariy used for 'rock' playing as you mentioned (like the SVT/Fridge thing), and some being very modern and bright (like the Portabass stuff that Tommy Kennedy used for years prior to the Ampeg buyout). And, everything in between, including a series of cabs that Victor Wooten used for a while that is a more modern, ported with tweeter thing.
While any good player can 'solo' through anything, there are cabs and amps (including some made by Ampeg) that are a bit wider, brighter, cleaner, and more articulate that lend themselves to the type of soloing you are talking about. |

If so, it's a good question, IMO, as I do live looper oriented work, primarily, and am always interested in a bass rig...a real bass rig...that I can layer parts w/o mud. |
