Hey guys,

I'm finally moving up from combos to an actual rig and i'm pretty new to the whole separate-head-and-cab deal but i've been reading up on here and some other sites quite a bit and i think i have the basics somewhat figured out.

i'm looking at the SWR headlite 400W head with the tube preamp and a golight Junior 400W 2X10. would i be right in assuming i could use these together without causing any kind of damage? i know the cab is rated at 8 ohms and the head has a 4 ohm minimum. that means i just wouldn't get as much volume out of this setup as i would with the same head with a 4 ohm cab, but its still safe, right?

It'll be fine, and you can add another cab later on.

You will get less wattage out of the amp, but wattage alone does not equal volume.

The same cab in 4 ohms will not be noticeably louder than the 8 ohm version.

This is the way to add output. More speaker surface area always trumps more wattage.
