Something Doesn't Add Up... (SWR 810 & 410 Content)

Sign in to disble this ad
So browsing the C-list today I come across a nice looking SWR 810 Cab.

I research it a bit and find out -

The Workingman's Tower is rated at 93 dB @ 1W1M.

The Workingman's 410 is rated at 100 dB SPL @ 1W1M

I know little about cab design, but, how is a 410 that much more efficient than an 810?

Would this equate to being better in the low end when pushed properly???

It's totally possible, especially if they have different speakers, different cabs, and different voicings. Speakers designed to go deeper and lower tend to have lower efficiencies although this isn't a rule. A lot of the component cabs on here have their mids/tweeters turned down to match a less efficient woofer. It sounds great but requires a lot of power to push to equal volume of a more efficient cab and less power.

I dont know enough to keep talking though. Wait for BFM or greenboy to chime in.

Thanks for your input. I just assumed that the cabs used the same drivers.

I would be sure to check. Companies change designs and suppliers over the years, even if model names stay the same. It's a lot like car companies. My parents and I each have a Honda Accord, 2 years apart. We have different bodies, interiors, drive trains, and performance. We both have leather, v6 Accords with Honda badges though! Despite being parts of the same series, those cabs might be vastly different on the inside, much like a 4cl vs 6cl option in an Accord

That was a great analogy, thanks!
