Son of Bertha and Goliath 3

Sign in to disble this ad
i just added an SWR Son of Bertha 1x15 to my setup. Nice.

it was most convenient to have the SOB sit on top of the 4x10 Goliath 3.

any thoughts on having the 15 above the 10's?

i run a redface SWR Bass 350. i also want more amplifier now too. Ain't that the way...

SWR, me too..

I went to GC a few years ago to try cabs out with my new Ashdown Evo II RC head. Played thru the GK cabs, Hated Em! Played the Mesa cabs, felt like a bunch tight mids; no low end. Didn't care to try the Ampeg cabs back then, was not looking for that tone.

Finally, tried the SWR Goliath and SOB cabs loved what my amp did with these cabs. Up til then, I owned Peavey 210/115 cabs. I found that the 410 did 90% of my gigs fine for me, rarely used the SOB 115. I later got a Avatar B210 that I'd use with the 115 cab for smaller gigs. I don't think I ever used the 115 above the 410 cab.

I liked the cabs fine, just went lighter years later and sold the two cabs to a local dude with my GBE600. 'Cept for the weight, I'd prolly still be diggin the Goliath III. Went to GBE750 and two GB cabs after that.

Loved the Ashdown head too but that love affair ended in tragedy.

You mean Like this?..

350X, SOB115, Goliath III 410.

I used to roll it all in...then stack the 410 on the 15...and then one day I got lazy, and kept it like this.
And honestly..not much a difference..It seems like the 410 was louder anyway..and as deep as any 15 I've ever heard.
(but you have one , so I don't need to tell you that )
Long story short..
I Don't have the 350X anymore..(Loved tone..but needed more power, so I got a 1001RB)

The 115, I blew the speaker on..(One week after warranty exp..GC wanted $450 just for replacement speaker..ended up selling the cab)

and I still have the Goliath III 410..still prolly the best (or close to it) 410 I've ever played through.

Well a "gear failure" tragedy in my eyes. Long story, posted on it alot back then. Don't want to derail this thread with it now.

Exactly like that picture. The Goliath III I have had casters put on it by a previous owner. they are removeable, but it is easier to leave them on. I took them off and stacked it with the 115 on the floor and must say that I liked it with the 115 on top better because the 15 was right at my chest/head and i felt it more. perhaps it is a more better balance with the 15 on the ground, I certainly feel it in my feet and legs with the 115 cab coupled to the ground, but i had to turn up my amp with the 10's on top. either way it still sounds great and I am glad to have a 410/115 rig. maybe one day i will play through a 215 cab and my whole world will change again.
