///That Sound Space Thread///

This morning I was playing around looking for sounds on the Carvin PB500/1x15 and tried doing something crazy that everyone seems to recommend....I sat there and figured out where each knob should go based on my ear! Usually, I'm a plug and play kinda guy, but when I took the time with the amp I was able really find something that worked for me. In addition, I used the additionally features on the amp (graphic eq, compressor, and the noise gate). I gotta say I usually avoid these add on type features on an amp, but I noticed that they had a positive effect on how I approached some of the grooves I played. Anyone else have tips for figuring out the best tone character of an amp and finding YOUR sound on an amplifier that may not impress you at first?

Yep, do exactly what you did.
Also do it at practise/band rehearsal, so you get the feel of HOW the eq you're dialling in, sits with the mix of the band!

Just as you got to know your bass you have to spend time getting to know your amplifier. It IS part of your signal chain and each part has to be learned so you can get the bast sound for YOU that you can find. Someone else's settings might well be the complete opposite of what you are looking for.

when you start playing in a band you'll realize hopefully that alot of low bass is not always good, and some guitar players really like too much bass on their own amp...<sigh>
