B200+ here as well. Built like a tank, but a little lacking in low end for me. Not sure if I will try to have it fitted with a different preamp, or just sell it and move on.

Sound City is still around? I had two guitar player friends about twenty or so years ago, who each had SC guitar stacks equivalent to a Marshall, 100-120 watts, two 4x12 cabs. Killer amps.
Loud.
Didn't know they made bass amps.

yeah - loud as all get out and clean. I am not sure in what world that these are only 200 watts, as it has no problem getting as loud as either svt-II or the svt-vr.

makes my want to mod the preamp some to get a little bottom end. Buuuut - I come from owning a lot of old cars through the years - and that philosophy that its only original once hangs on my conscience.

Got a B120, but it is a work in progress as the pre is noisy as hell, which they are known for, but something more needs doing to it.

Here's my baby, a Sound City B120. It's always sounded great as long as I've owned it (~5 years or so) and I've yet to do so much as change a tube, let alone get it serviced and/or recapped or anything. I've been wanting one of the lower wattage heads for a long time, since these amps sound so mean when pushed...but playing that loud in a practice space would be like reenacting the facemelting scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've used it with a HotPlate a lot when recording bands that want a real over the top grindy tone.

I have a B120 Mark 4 that I converted to a Hiwatt style preamp. Sounds awesome and very low noise. The Mark 1, 2, 3 Sound City amps are great, but the noisy active tone controls in the Mark 4 amps bother me.

The original Arbiter / Dallas Arbiter Sound City brand ended around 1976 as far as amp production. I think somebody started building SC reissue amps recently, but I don't know any details.

i love my '74 sound city bass 150. it sounds big, fat & punchy and is very 'touch-responsive'. the 150 rated watts feels alot more powerful than my Traynor YBA200-II and seems actually closer to my SVT's power.

I am the proud owner of a L200+ that I converted to a HiWatt DR-201 pre-amp.
This thing rules all!

Don't try to get it to overdrive though, it's clean all the way up.

Sorry the pic is blurry...it's the only one I had here at work.

If you ever want yours converted to the Hiwatt pre-amp I can do it for you. I have done it to a couple of them so far including my own.

Nice, like the rest of your amps.

No gut shots of mine that I can find. Have some old pre-repair pics of the chassis. New caps and power tubes now. My ears can't tell the difference between these GECs and the current JJs in this amp, but somebody liked them enough to pay ~ $700 for them if I recall correctly. Preamp tubes did make a difference, it sounds much better with the stock tubes so they stayed.

Brand new here, and thought I'd pipe up...

Proud owner of a Mark 4 B200+ Amp.

Absolutely love it...amazing tone.

Pics of mine (though taken years ago) are at:
http://www.soundcitysite.com/sc_webp...8.htm#B200_1.1

1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 are my amp, which I picked up from the bass player from "Bjorn Again", the ABBA tribute band.

At least I play better music than it's previous owner!
