Speaker cable

I imagine that if I'm getting a Head/cab rig, I'll need to get a speaker cable, right? Not an instrument cable. And I'll have to buy it separately? Would just any old speaker cable work, or are there "Good" brands? And how long do I want it? a foot or two? three or four?

Yes, you'll need a speaker cable, not an instrument cable. I usually use a 6 foot cable with speakon connectors if the amp and cab have 'em. I don't remember which brand I bought, but most any brand should be fine.

Cool. These cost around $20 bucks? Cheaper? After I get my rig, I'm not going to have much extra, and I'm entering college, so I'll need all the extra I can get. so $20? under $10? And I really shouldn't need more than 6ft.

Also, Speakon connectors? I do not know what you speak of.
