Speaker Cable Coupler

Is this adapter ok to use with speaker cable to run from head to amp?

I don't think it's meant for speaker connections; more of a guitar cable extender.

It is. I'm just wondering if there would be an issue using it for speaker purposes.

The electrons won't mind. I would advise using a little tape to make sure it doesn't come uncoupled.

Cool. The cables and adapter make a very tight fit so I don't think that will be a problem.

It would probably work but it's inviting a potential failure. Speaker cables have to carry a lot of current and these adapters were not designed for that - and neither were 1/4" jacks in general.

I think it'll be fine. The internal connection is probably solid metal rather than wire, so there shouldn't be a problem. However, it'd be better to use a cable with Speakon connectors. If you need an extension, you could use one of these.

Hmmm ... most people have been using quarter-inch plugs and jacks for speaker connections for at least 50 years. Speakons are better, but quarter-inch works just fine.

I'm guessing his point is 1/4" was one thing in the days when a "big" bass amp was 100 watts; but it's not the best format for a 1000+ watt rig.

Older stuff tended to be lower wattage.

If you're using more than 200watt, best to go with the speakon to speakon coupler in the middle (more metal, less internal resistance) or just make yourself a longer cord.

I'm connecting the speaker of my MarkBass Jeff Berlin to my Carvin BX500.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah. It'd work.....................
It'd be much better to just buy one the right length.

You ---really---don't want that coming apart in the middle of your gig, for any reason.

That'll be $10 or better to your door.
A good speaker cable isn't *that much more*

I can't see problems in combination with amp power not greater 300 Watt but,
why not use a single cable that fits to your desired length?

BTW current at 300 Watt amp power at 4 Ohm load is not greater then 5 Ampere RMS at full amp power (at the edge of clipping)

Since the speaker is part of the combo I can't plug directly with one cable. There's a 1/4 male from the speaker to the MarkBass head but I want to plug it into my Carvin. But cable is only a few inches so I need to extend it a little bit.

I love these TalkBass discussions that expound in little things! That's why I posted

Ah, well, as the Car Talk guys would say, you did a fine job of obfuscating that one by not including that info in your original post: well done!

two degrees in classical music does not equal cable knowledge.... of course it didn't teach how to size kids for concert uniforms or running the school's soundboard either

And lead-based paint, cars without seat belts and house wiring with no ground were all time-honored traditions too.
