speaker cable polarity question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wiring up a new cab and need to know if the speaker cable tip is the positive or negative. Soldering iron is hot and just need to make sure I have the polarity correct.

Generally, with a 1/4" plug, tip is positive. If you use a Speakon or other multi-pole plug system, then it's not so easy.

You should check with a 9V battery that all the speakers are in phase. Mostly with the plugs tip on the battery positive and the sleeve on the negative all the cones should move out away from the magnet structure.
