Speaker Die-lemma

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm upgrading my rig, and I'm looking at speaker options and would greatly appreciate the collected wisdom. Amp is Eden Navigator stereo. Option 1 is two Bergantino AE112s. Option 2 is TC Elect 210/212. Option 3 is TC 210/112. What experience has anybody had with TC durability, cutting through drummers/Marshalls, etc? I would have every confidence in the Bergs, but I'm wondering if I can save $$ without sacrificing quality & presence. Would the TC112 option be unbalanced or less effective? Rock & blues music, bar context.

Thanks for any help/advice!

...has an excellent bass department which is usually stocked with some of the more popular bass goodies often mentioned on TB (including tc' heads & cabs).

You may wish to contact them re the cabs you are interested in. If they don't have them on the sales floor then they may be available in their rental department.

You'd could likely arrange a rent-to-buy deal which would allow you to test prospective cabs in a band setting.

I played regularly in the 60s, dropped out when I went to university, and recently came out of retirement to find a whole new world of gear. So I'm getting into it, just got an Eden Navigator (1000W stereo) which is giving my Eden Nemesis 2x10 fits. My top priority is a good cab for the bottom end, and then a better quality 2x10 or something for the top end. I've found the discussions here of over/under driving very useful (I'm no longer as concerned about trying a Bergantino cab rated at 350W), although in stereo mode the amp is showing the Nemesis cab up to 500W (into a 300W cab) and it fraps horribly unless I use the crossover control to emphasize the other cab (borrowed Mesa 15). Sorry for the long story - what I haven't seen discussed is speaker stiffness, and whether certain speakers will be over/underdriven because of that rather than just the wattage?
I need to come up with a good pair of cabinets that I can use for rock, blues, folk/country. I don't slap, and I rarely use a pick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
