Speaker Identification Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had this 15" frankencab for a while. I finally pulled the speaker out today and cannot identify it at all. It's a modified Peavey speaker cab and I thought it was an Ampeg speaker. I ONLY see white numbers on the back of the speaker on the paper cone area:

104-40234
303

I can't find anything else on the speaker--not even an ohm marking. I was told it was 8ohm.

I did a quick search and I can't find anything. Someone have an idea or where to send me to find out?

Might be a problem if those are the only numbers. None of them appear to be speaker codes. Usually the speaker code is on the fame rim of the speaker. Numbers on the cone, particularly if it's a recone, have no meaning as to the brand. Check for numbers in other places around the rim and maybe pics would help. The ohms you can check with an ohm meter.

Numbers generally refer to the individual driver parts, not the driver model. Picture worth thousand words.

I'll post some pics tonight when I get home. I couldn't find any numbers around the rim but will double-check tonight. I had a feeling the numbers were part numbers and not identification numbers.

No. My guess is an Asian import, could even be a hi-fi driver.

most of the altecs seem to have 4 "spokes" holding the magnet. your looks as if it has 5? if its 5 it may not be altec.

Just measured--it's definitely 15" speaker. IMO, the cab sounds good. It's a practice cab anyways, but was hoping to sell. I guess I'll put it up for cheap.
