speaker impedance question

can I wire a single 8 ohm speaker "In series" to drop the load to 4 ohms? some one told me this and it doesn't seem to make scene. BUT, BUT, BUT it would make my life way eraser/ Cheaper. If it sounds to good to be true..........

Some sub woofers have dual voice coils, wiring them in parallel will make 4 ohm. Wire the two voice coils in series it is 16 ohms. You won't find any pro bass or PA speakers with dual voice coils though and if you do find one that "claims" to be pro gear....don't buy it!
