i get a sort of crackling out of my 100w ampeg combo when i play lower notes and i got the bass eq around 2 o'clock. does it sound like a speaker problem? and if so, does anyone know where to get a replacement 15" speaker?

you have to find out if it is actually the speaker, or the amp. or a cord, or if its the bass. if your bass is active it may need a battery change. i notice when my battery starts to die only certain notes distort. there are alot of possible causes, unfortunately you need to rule out where its not coming from with another instrument, speaker, and bass, cord. the whole signal chain. can you hook the speaker up to a stereo receiver to be sure its whats crackling? or try a cd player into the amp to be sure its not the bass guitar.

Those don't have the world's most wonderful limiter, and it is possible for the tweeter to pick up harmonics from clipping the unit very slightly.

Try turning down the tweeter (I don't recall if you can on that or not). That amp is all enclosed without any access to an output jack, and it may be difficult to disconnect.

If no luck turning down etc, you can try seeing if it appears to be coming from the tweeter, and if so, you may want to go ahead and disconnect it, or have it disconnected.

otherwise, there may be another issue. That circuit has had some bias issues, and there is always a real case of bad contacts, damaged speaker, air leak somewhere, etc, etc. All can cause distortions and/or what might be called scratchy sound.
