speaker recommendation?

Speaker recommendation for the following application?

Crate CR-1R (10W amp, 12"speaker)
always used as a practice amp, bedroom levels, alone. (I'm alone in my bedroom a lot, but that's another story)
primarily used for guitar, mellow jazzy sound (think George Benson)
sometime used for bass guitar (60's brit invasion type music)
Something with a decent SPL so that the amp is not driven into solid state distortion to achieve volume.

TIA

The stock speaker is probably fairly efficient, but it will not do much for bass because the guitar speaker is not designed to produce low frequencies, and the small open back cabinet allows cancellation of whatever low frequencies are produced.

Option 1) Stuff the cab with acoustic insulation (dacron pillow stuffing) and close up the back.

Option 2) As above but with an Eminence Beta 10a on an adapter board (12 inch to 10 inch). Why not a 12 inch? The cab is too small for a 12 inch to produce even mid-bass frequencies. Also, the small cab and 12 inch would have a pronounced peak in the upper bass (others in the house probably will not appreciate this).

Option 3) Put a 12 inch bass driver (like an Eminence Alpha or Beta 12a) in the stock cab and play it with the back of the amp in the opening of a closet. You could also try corner placement if a closet is not available.

Option 4) Build a bass cab for a 10 or 12 inch bass driver, or watch Craigs List for a used cab and driver. Later, pick up a used GK MB200.

Good luck!

IMO, I wouldn't throw too much cash into that amp but this might work for you. A full range alum driver for $30:
