Speaker Replacement

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,
My name is Tom, Im new to the forum. I recently purchased on C.L. a 1990's SWR Goliath III 4x10 cab and have noticed recently that it sounds as if a speaker is blown. It sounds pretty bad especially the louder i go. I have looked up on the vintage SWR website and it says that the Goliath III speaker is an Eminence Legend BP102 10" 200W @ 8ohms. I have even found one on E bay for about 85.00 which is fine with me. My concern is that the speaker looks Different in the picture! My speakers seem to have a larger cone on them than what shows in the picture. Is this correct? Is that all that is offered as a replacement? Am I looking at the correct speaker? Any help will be much appreciated.

Oh, one more question, Are these speakers easily replaced? I have never done it before.
Thanks

Search the "battery test" one here. Check your cab that way, see what's moving and what's not. Then check the wiring inside, see if something maybe didn't just come loose.

If you"ve got bad drivers look into getting them reconed so they all match. Having mismatched drivers in the same box doesn't work too well. I thought older swr used eden drivers, newer ones PAS.

For practical purposes "driver" = "speaker". Technically, the individual speakers are called drivers and when you put them all together in a box and wire them up, that's a speaker but for conversation, the terms are pretty much interchangeable.

If you're looking to source a BP102, I would suggest Featuring Eminence Speakers, Crown Amplifiers, DIY Speaker Kits - Speaker Hardware, over 30 years Audio experience. Some if not most of those ebay sellers aren't the greatest.. Leland is an authorized dealer, and he has the best prices..

Depending on where you live, there may be someone who does it locally, otherwise it's a ship it off broken/get it back fixed kinda thing.
