Speaker replacement help

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought an ampeg bxt-115hl4 a little over a year ago from guitar center and it just stopped working so I took it apart and found a replacement eminence speaker inside. It was supposed to be a 4 ohm cab and I ran it that way but turns out the speaker was an 8 ohm! So I contacted ampeg and they offer a replacement oem 4 ohm speaker but its $318!!!! The only info they have is that its an eminence, 15" 300 watt, 4" voice coil 4 ohm speaker. I'm sure there are great speakers that are less than $318 that will sound great in this cab. Any suggestions?

Basslite C2515. Probably do the job OK Tough to say for sure though without measurements on the cab (and ports).

$318 for a ceramic magnet OEM grade driver is highway robbery. The problem is that few 4 ohm drivers are made, so you don't have many options. Are you using this with your 410? If so I'd forget about the fifteen, get another 410 used, it will work much better.

yeah I am using this with the 410 cab. After taking the 410 off of the 15" cab and putting it on the ground I am now wondering if I even need anything else. I just don't like having broken gear around, and it is a well built cabinet so I figured I'd fix it.

I'd sell it empty and invest the $ in another 410 if you need it, something else if you don't. It comes up here quite regularly that a 115 and 410 is a poor match, and your experience shows one reason why, a 115 will blow long before a 410 breaks a sweat.
