speaker types in Dr Bass 1260s

Does anyone know what types of speakers the Dr Bass cabinets utilized? Both the ceramic and neodymium 12 inch drivers.

Also, what cabinets have similar drivers?

It varies based on your order. Some were deltalites, some kappalites, some deltas, some Beyma, some Faital.

I asked Marc the same question. He said they were "custom", but finally told me they were based on the "American Standard" Delta-12LFA series, if my memory serves me well.

edit; This was for the ceramic version cause that's what I was ordering.

Mine has a Deltalite 2512 II in it . It seems to work very , very well in this cabinet . It gets really loud without breaking up and manages to sound pretty deep doing it . I had a 2 way Dr Bass 112 cabinet that had a first generation 2512 in it and it sounded anemic with weak low end compared to the Deltalite II .

AFAIR, Marc doesn't qualify for custom ordering drivers, he uses stock components.

A 3012HO is what I'd recommend for that box. It's so small that almost anything else will get boomy or not perform as well (one of the two).

Whichever new company will extend him a line of credit. He was pushing Faital pretty hard for a while.

I've wondered how a 3012 HO or LF would sound in it, but I gotta tell ya, mine sounds damned good with the ceramic it's loaded with. Perhaps the little extra cab volume my slantface has over the regular one makes some difference, but I've never heard one other than mine.

It sounds well balanced, with plenty of low end and lots of power handling. I've played some gigs with it solo, powered with a GK 700RB II, and it really delivered.

I would think the 3012HO would be the best fit too , its sensitivity matches the mid driver pretty well . The 3012LF needs a bigger box to work in and isn't as sensitive so I think its capability for moving more air would be limited by the size of the cab .

I've thought about putting a 3012HO in my cab but the Deltalite does so well in it I don't think it would be worth the expense .

My original BL1260 had a Delta 12 LF. I replaced it with a Deltalite II. Both sounded excellent in that cab.

My current DRB1260 Slant has a 3012LF. It sounds pretty danged nice to me. I don't hear EQ issues resulting from that driver being in too small an enclosure. I'd have to hear a 3012HO in it, but I'm not going to experiment.

Eric, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Dr.Bass cabs. Marc really knew/knows what he's doing.

Funny thing, I really didn't like the 1580 much at all. It sounded almost puny to me compared to the 1260SF. Maybe I'm hearing the upper bass "bump" that's often attributed to certain small cabs such as the 1260, but it caused me to sell off the 1580 not long after receiving it.

Unfortunately, I need to dispense with the 1260 as my health issues mandate even lower weight cabs.
