anybody know what the specs are on the main drivers in an ampeg 610HLF? newer-ish model, 4 ohms. i've got one that's farting pretty bad, and was pondering replacing it because getting something reconed in my part of the world takes for friggin' ever.
please and thanks.

At one point, if you googled Ampeg 6 ohm speaker there was a link that would come up for OEM replacements, but I tried to find it recently and had no luck.
Edit - found it, they're 6 ohms, not 5.3. Not sure why I had 5.3 in my head. (6+6)/3=4 (the cab uses a series/parallel wiring scheme). http://www.speakerrepair.com/mm5/mer...Code=86-510-06

You'll change the cab from 4 ohms to 4.2 ohms. Realistically, that's a pretty minor impedance mismatch, and not one that likely to instantly blow up your amp, but you'd be putting in a speaker not matched for the porting/tuning of the cab, that speaker will see a difference amount of wattage from the amp than the others, and will sound different. Has potential for phasing/sound cancelling issues at a minimum. |

| | | | I ordered mine off of California speaker. They run about a hundred bucks and the shipping was cheap and fast. But it is the exact speaker. Replaced 2 in my cab and now it sounds great |

The bottom section is the one that is ported but the holes in the baffle/bracing between the sections are pretty large. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
