Speakers : When Do You Realize You Might Have Too Many

Sign in to disble this ad
I have 3 Bass Head/Cab rigs (and one practice amp)

1) When your wife comes in the music room and says "look at all those speakers" (hey, two are for Guitar and one is for the keyboard). My son plays bass, guitar, and keyboards.
2) When you start using them to put things like lamps, fans, Xbox360's, etc. on them.

3) When you can no longer get into a room because it's full of cabs.

If you have to sleep in the back yard because there's no room in your house, you either have too many cabs or you need a bigger house.

Man that tombolus guy is crazy! Even if I was a Billionairre I wouldn't have anywhere that many.

So I count each of my speaker cabs (counting the 3 combo amps as speakers) in my music room and I have.

4- Bass Cabs 1 (15") 1 (2x12") 1 (2X10") 1 (8")
2- Guitar Cabs 1 (2x12") 1(10")
1- Keyboard Cab 1 (12")
2- PA Cabs. 2 (10")
------------------
total is 9 so actually I see where my wife is coming from.

Where is God's name does Tom keep all his gear?! Jealousy aside, I need to know whether or not he's discovered technology capable of stabilizing dimensional wormholes and using them for storage purposes.

IIRC, Tom's collection has slimmed down quite a bit.

From my perspective that is not an unusual amount of speakers at all but I guess from a non-musician point of view it seems like a lot. Let me ask you something, how many shoes does your wife have?

Never, because there's no such thing as too many?

That's what I'm going with.

Sort of.

-My Bergantino HT115 sits in the practice room and works as one of my guitarists' amp stand for his 2x12 combo.

-My Avatar SB112 is on end and acts a a PA speaker stand.

-My Schroeder 1212 acts as a keyboard cab, with a Motionsound leslie on top of it...

See...they're all still useful!

Too many speakers?

Don't be silly, that's impossible. There's no such thing as too many speakers, rather, if you think there might be too many, the problem is actually that the space is too small for them.

Agreed - currently, I have:

(1) 115
(1) 215
(1) 610
(1) 810
(4) 15 + horn PA tops
(4) 118 PA subs
(4) 15 + horn PA monitors
(1) guitar 412
(1) 112 guitar tube amp combo
(1) 115 bass combo
(3) bass amps

That's just off the top of my head - I'm probably missing a few things... I'd say if you're using it, you don't have "too much"...

Indeed. Currently I've got a 1x15, a 2x15, a 2x10 (sadly for sale), a 1x15 combo, a 1x...8? guitar combo, a guitar 4x12 and six guitar 12" speakers laying around (going to put them in a homemade 4x12 and 2x12).

I plan on building at least one more 2x15. Not because I actually NEED to be louder. Just because of sonic megalomania.
